If you loved The Hunger Games and the Twilight Series this is absolutely a must read!! As a story of a civilization from beyond our planet that has inhabited earth for hundreds of years, I was hesitant to read it since it’s a well used topic. However, once I started I literally could not put it down!. Crean does an amazing job with both her human and Permutant characters by creating a rich diversity among both civilizations demonstrating love, hatred, humor and venom….all those characteristics that draw us into a story. There are many story lines happening throughout this book but her love story between two dominant characters stole my heart! They had a connection we’d all love to have! There lives take the reader on quite a ride! In addition, I love how humanity is illustrated from an outside perspective showing the vast contrasting emotions of our nature as a species. This is a story that has stuck with me as few stories have.I cannot wait for the entire series to be published!!

Character driven fantasy with romance and good plot development with between good and evil. Story is told from various character’s point of view which I loved because hearing what was going on inside their heads kept me turning the page. Once bonded, Kate and Aaron can read each other’s minds which is a cool way to learn about Aaron’s people and their customs and traditions. Fun relatable characters and an antagonist that is worthy of hate. Action and short chapters keep this long book moving. Complex, rich with peril and danger but the author throws in humor. Themes of community, fighting for what is right, forgiveness and change.

Highly recommended. Very readable book that starts with two or three characters and ends up with a well-developed story arc and interesting little sub stories within. Low fantasy with world building but not thick with it. The female main character (Kate) is so likeable! Smart, strong, kind, and has cool abilities that make her more well-rounded and more dangerous than her warrior counterpart. A little bit heavier on the romance than I prefer but I just breezed through it and got to the action or the character development. Humorous parts – the character Bull is literal and so endearing. Author seems to set it up for another book which I hope comes out soon!

In this epic adventure, the reader has a front row seat to forces that clash to either save or enslave humanity. An alien race has secretly lived among humans for centuries. Over time, they split into two factions, the Permutants, who want to live peacefully with humans, and the Transmutants, who want to control them. The male aliens have many fascinating and unique abilities, such as their ability to shape-shift and mind-speak. Females of their race have their own special abilities that the reader will find touching. As this complex plot unfolds, you will enjoy the playful and light-hearted moments, yet be enthralled by the intense, life and death situations. The Permutants are filled with integrity, and will do what they have to do to ensure their vision of what life on Earth could be. The Transmutants are just as committed to their evil vision, domination of the human race. In beginning moments of the novel, you will meet Aaron, a Permutant who discovers Kate, raised by humans and unaware of her potential powers. He immediately forms a loving bond with her. Kate joins the Permutants, learning about her alien history and developing her powers. As she is adjusting to her new way of life, the Transmutants, led by Arganon, kidnap her and want to use her powers to enslave the human race. While living as a prisoner in caverns occupied by the Transmutants, she continues to explore and test her abilities, all the time communicating with Aaron, to help plan her rescue, and give the Permutants the edge in the battle about to take place. You will find yourself rooting for the gallant heroes, while they fight the good fight, engaged in the love story of Aaron and Kate, and appreciate the way these ancient aliens believe in spite of our flaws, the human race is worth saving. Once I Kate arrived at the Permutants compound, I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.
